Preschool News – M/W/F and M-F Classes
Dear Parents,
Spring is in full bloom in preschool! Our plants are growing more and more each day – we love checking on them each time we come to school! In addition to our real class “garden,” we also have a garden of our heights. After painting a flower, we each got measured on the wall and placed the flower accordingly. The preschoolers love to look at the difference in height between themselves and their friends. With 53 preschoolers between all of the part-time classes, there is quite the range in heights of our flower garden! We also enjoyed making cute bumble-bees to add to our garden.
In religion, we have been celebrating Mary, Jesus’ mother. We are also continuing to read different bible stories and work on our pages for our own bibles that we’re making.
Can you believe we completed the letter “Z” today?! Where does the time go? The preschoolers have been too funny all week – they are already anticipating what’s next and keep asking Jill and I what we’re going to do since there is no more letters to learn about! J For our letter “Z” we met a zebra, read his story and made his puppet. We also practiced writing the letter as well as how to say its sound. Now that our letter study is completed, we will be working on our end of the year activities. We started practicing this week for our end of the year celebration and are so excited to share some of our favorite songs and poems with you!
Also, if your child has a summer birthday we would love to celebrate it at school. You are welcome to choose any day between now and the end of the year and we will celebrate his/her birthday on that day. If you would like to send in a treat for the class, we have 19 preschoolers.
As always, please email me at kfadden@sjfschool.net with any questions or concerns.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Dear Parents,
Have you heard the exciting news yet that most of our plants are starting to grow!? It has been so fun to check on them each day and find new little green leaves starting to pop up! Since we are now experts at growing plants, we were able to color and put pictures in order according to how a plant grows, from a seed to a fully-grown plant. We also practiced our writing skills on an Earth Day shadow writing page for our memory books. Additionally, we worked on a sheet that reinforced two crucial things a plant needs to grow – water and sunlight! We also have read many Earth Day and plant stories and continue to sing our plant song that we love!
This week, we also learned about the letter “Y.” We met a yak and made his puppet, sang his song and read his story. We also learned the sound that the letter makes, how to write it and some words that begin with the letter. We can’t believe that next week we are learning about the letter “Z!” Where did the time go?!
Last call for Fisher math t-shirts! These t-shirt orders that are for our school-wide math fundraiser are due on Monday. The cost for a t-shirt for a preschooler is $10.00 if you would like to purchase one.
As always, please feel free to email me at kfadden@sjfschool.net with any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful weekend!

Dear Parents,
Can you believe we’re in the final home stretch? I’m looking forward to having a lot of fun and enjoying as much time as I can with your children over the next month and a half – I know it is going to fly! This week, we started preparing for our end of the year celebration program, which will be held on Friday, June 1st at 9:00 a.m. The program will be short and sweet for those of you who need to get to work after. We are looking forward to sharing some special songs and poems with you as well as receiving our memory books!
This week, we learned all about our beautiful planet as we celebrate Earth Day! We sponge-painted the Earth and put it on a black backdrop that we painted with glitter for the stars. We are proudly hanging our works of art in our hallway! We also read many Earth Day stories and learned about different ways we can help to keep our Earth beautiful, such as recycling, turning off the sink while we brush our teeth and using both sides of a piece of paper. The preschoolers had some wonderful ideas – I can already tell they are going to be very eco-friendly as they get older! We continued our Earth Day learning by planting our own Marigold seeds! We talked about how plants grow and the three important things they need to grow – soil, water and light. (Lets keep our fingers crossed that our seeds grow and a certain teacher won’t be having to buy some marigold flowers right before Mother’s Day
)We even learned a special song about the plants this week to sing with our own finger puppets! I am sending home the finger puppets as well as the words to the song in case you want to practice with your child. Lastly, we talked about how plants are living things and worked on a corresponding science activity page that will be included in our memory books. We are looking forward to more fun Earth Day activities next week!
We are almost at the end of the alphabet! We learned about the letter “X” this week and loved the cool sound that it makes! We met Foxy Roxy, made her puppet and read her story. We also practiced writing the letter as well as how to say its sound. We are on to letter “Y” next week!
Just a reminder that Scholastic Book Orders are due on Wednesday, April 25th. For every order you place online our class earns $3 in free books. Happy Reading! Also a reminder for those of you whose preschooler is an oldest – if you want a Fisher math t-shirt for your child for our upcoming school-wide math fundraiser, you are welcome to send in your child’s order with $10. Shirt orders are due on or before Monday, April 30th.
Thank you for all that you do! It has been such a wonderful experience to get to know your child and watch them grow this year! I look forward to savoring my final days with them this year – they are a great group of kids!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Dear Parents,
Happy Early Easter! We are having an “egg-cellent” time in Preschool learning about Easter and doing different Easter-themed projects. As we learn about Jesus and how much he loves us, we made a colorful cross for our memory books that show just how special we are! We also had fun playing an Easter Egg match game where we had to match two parts of an egg – an uppercase letter to the corresponding lowercase letter. In addition to reading many Easter stories, we also had fun making sweet bunnies out of our handprints! We also worked hard practicing our writing skills by making our book of spring words that is going home today. Have your child read this story to you – they get so excited that they can “read!” Another activity that we are greatly enjoying is making our own touch and feel Easter books. We are excited to complete and take these books home to share next week! Last, we had a blast getting together with the full-time preschoolers this afternoon to dye Easter Eggs!
This week we learned all about the letter “W.” We made a walrus puppet, sang our “W” song and read a story about the letter. We also practiced how to write the letter as well as how to say its sound. If you have time over Spring Break, it might be fun to practice learning letters (and their sounds for those who are ready) with your child in unique ways. Some fun ideas are making the letters using playdough, Wikki Sticks or yarn or writing them in gel, sand or shaving cream. Also, as I have mentioned before, www.starfall.com is a great website for reviewing letters and their sounds!
Again, our last class date before Easter break will be Wednesday, April 4th. We will resume school on Monday, April 16th. If you happen to be spring-cleaning over break and come across any gently used books/dolls/puzzles/cars/dress-up clothes (old Halloween costumes)/etc. that you think the preschoolers might enjoy we would greatly appreciate it!
As always, please feel free to email me at kfadden@sjfschool.net with any questions or concerns. I hope that your families have a wonderful Easter and enjoy the nice break!

Happy Early Easter! We are having an “egg-cellent” time in Preschool learning about Easter and doing different Easter-themed projects. We are learning all about the meaning of Easter and are continuing to work hard to be like Jesus. We want to be loving and kind and a good friend to all just like Jesus was! We made a colorful cross for our memory books that show just how special we are! In addition to reading many Easter stories, we also had fun making sweet bunnies out of our handprints! Another activity that we are greatly enjoying is making our own touch and feel Easter books. We worked hard on a cute chick activity that practiced many important skills. We practiced our cutting skills by cutting out a chick and an egg, our fine motor skills by ripping brown paper and gluing it together to make the chick’s nest and our patterning skills by choosing two different color squares and gluing them to make a pattern border. The preschoolers really enjoyed working on this project! We also enjoyed many Easter stories this week but a highlight of our week was definitely learning the “Little Bunny Foo Foo” song. We do movements and sing along to a CD but ask your child if s/he can do it on their own for you! Their expressions for this song are priceless!
Last week, we learned about the letter “V” while this week we learned about the letter “W.” For both letters we read their stories, sang their songs and made their puppets. We also practiced how to write the letters as well as how to say their sounds. If you have time over Spring Break, it might be fun to practice learning letters with your child in unique ways. Looking ahead, our last class date before Easter break will be Tuesday, April 3rd. We will resume school on Tuesday, April 17th. Dear Parents,
Now that St. Patrick’s Day is over, new things are hatching in Preschool! We are learning all about the meaning of Easter and are continuing to work hard to be like Jesus. We do movements and sing along to a CD but ask your child if s/he can do it on their own for you! Their expressions for this song are priceless!
We have also learned about the letter “V” this week. We met Victor and Vanessa, who are vultures, and read their story, made their puppet and sang their song. We also practiced writing the letter as well as how to say its sound. Our letter “V” hunt around the room was a little more difficult this week since not many words have a “V” in them! It was a great challenge for each student to find one.
Hopefully you received the flyer that went home earlier this week about the Scholastic book fair. The book fair will kick-off after the Grandparent’s Mass on Sunday. Our class will be attending the book fair on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.. You are more than welcome to come and shop with your child or send them with a check/cash if you would like. Please let me know if you have any questions. This is a great opportunity to pick up some great books while also helping the school!
Today was the last day of our three part series presented by the Chicago Public Library designed to teach preschoolers about money. The preschoolers really enjoyed the different activities and stories that the program entailed.
Now that the weather is getting quite warm, we have been able to take advantage of our wonderful playground. I try to get the preschoolers outside at least every Wednesday. We meet our full-day preschool friends at the playground and it is a great opportunity for them to develop their gross motor skills as well as work on their social skills by making new friends and taking turns. Since the weather is getting so warm, I would hate for anyone to get a sunburn even though we go out for a short amount of time so if your child burns easily, please consider putting sunscreen on them before they come to school, especially on Wednesdays.
Looking ahead, our last class date before Easter break will be Wednesday, April 4th. We will resume school on Monday, April 16th.
As always, please feel free to email me at kfadden@sjfschool.net with any questions or concerns. Have a great weekend!
